IHOPE can be seen as a stop along the way, a waiting space where one can reflect and hope. It consists of a neon sign as a reference to a scaled down, inconsequential advertisement for a motel which seems to have no motivation to sell of advertise anything. Under the sign sits and waits Brandon Teena. Teena became known as a tragic figure, a transgender victim of transphobic murder which occured in 1993 and inspired the plot of the movie ‘Boys Don’t Cry’. Teena represents the person who is always on the road, always in between, captured in limbo.
